Carmine Sorrentino, VP and commercial and operational director of the Wholesale Networks business at Liberty Networks, provided an update on the company’s three ongoing subsea cable projects.
As part of LINKS 2026, Liberty Networks’ event in Playa del Carmen, he noted that Manta is currently in the manufacturing phase. Surveys are also ongoing, along with landing station work and permitting processes. Commercial service is expected for late 2027 or early 2028.
Regarding Maya 1.2, Sorrentino told Convergencia that its upgrade will be completed in the coming weeks.
Finally, he highlighted the project led by the government of El Salvador to deploy ES-1, which will connect the country with Panama. The motivation is that El Salvador currently relies only on terrestrial routes for connectivity to Panama.
“We will invest where there is demand. Even to build an ecosystem where there was none before,” Sorrentino said.
