LINKS 2026

LLA-AWS agreement: the deployment is already active in Colombia and Panama

One of the standout projects during LINKS 2026, which concluded yesterday in Playa del Carmen, was the agreement between Liberty Latin America (LLA) and Amazon Web Services (AWS). Ray Collins, senior vice president of Infrastructure and Corporate Strategy at LLA and CEO of Liberty Networks, said negotiations took a year in order to make it work for both companies and Liberty Networks’ customers.

“We will have a private cloud environment so we can access it, and so can our customers. And each data flow will take different routes. We are currently in active deployment in Colombia and Panama, and then we will continue to other countries in the region. We understood that we cannot replicate what they did (referring to AWS): competition is not always the answer,” Collins said.

Behind the agreement, Liberty’s idea was to combine AWS’s offering with its own local infrastructure. In particular, the executive referred to AWS Outposts, which allow public and private cloud capabilities to be brought to Liberty’s customers.
