The National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel) granted the unit of Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM) two new 5 MHz blocks, as spectrum expansion held in the 900 MHz. Digitel frequencies were allocated for rural fixed telephony and cell telephony on the GSM standard, in the states of Aragua, Carabobo, Distrito Capital, Falcón, Guárico, Cojedes, Miranda, Vargas and Yaracuy. Digitel requested spectrum expansion after reporting the Conatel on network saturation and impossibility of expanding capacity. As part of the process, the operator returned Conatel a block of 60 pairs of trunking frequencies on 800 MHz. It has also assumed migration costs of operators running on the spectrum granted in the expansion.
