Tigo Colombia reaches 73,349 Internet.org registrations in five days

Colombia became first country in the region to adopt the initiative "to give internet access to the two-thirds of population remaining unconnected" of which Facebook is the most visible driver in association with Ericsson, Qualcomm, Samsung and other multinational companies as founders.

Two basic requirements affect access to the system: to have a browsing device and a Tigo Sim Card. "All our customers (8,692,171, according to Colombian regulator's data as of third quarter) may use it, but we aim at the 70% not accessing data services, said Iriarte. He also said that the "typical user" is a person of the rural area that has mobile or wifi coverage but who can not afford the service. Wireless penetration in Colombia is 112.3% and Claro leads the market with 54.6% share (Mintic, as of third quarter 2014).
