Latin America's pioneering 5G tender aims to create a public-private digital ecosystem

Yesterday at the Palacio de la Moneda, President Sebastián Piñera officially started the process, coinciding with the publication of the rules. In a first stage, it should be connected to ministries, municipalities and almost 200 hospitals. In addition, experimental 5G network permits will be granted to universities and connectivity in industrial estates will be considered. They estimate that the tender will contribute 0.2% to GDP in direct investment in the first year and 0.5% after the start of operations at the national level.

While President Sebastián Piñera made the announcement of the official launch of the public tender for 5G, the bases of the four tenders were made available on the website of the Undersecretariat of Telecommunications. There he specified in each case that it is a public tender to grant a concession that installs, operates and exploits one or more wireless networks according to the band: a) a wireless network LTE Advanced Pro, 5G or higher in the 703 frequency bands -713 MHz and 758-768 MHz; b) a wireless network LTE Advanced Pro, 5G or higher in the frequency bands 1,755-1,770 and 2,155-2,170 MHz; c) wireless networks exclusively 5G or higher in the frequency bands 3.30 - 3.40 GHz and 3.60 - 3.65 GHz; d) Wireless networks exclusively 5G or higher in the frequency band 25.90 - 27.50 GHz.
