Neutral networks: the active modality prevails in Argentina and becomes the engine of fiber expansion

Operators prefer to highlight the financial relevance of all activity and avoid heavy Capex investments that they cannot fulfill later, as with OLTs, for a penetration of between 40% and 60%. The model that looks for wireless ISPs as clients is also growing.

Neutral network deployments are gaining ground in the country as a way to make networks more efficient and reduce investments for those actors who want to offer services over fiber without facing the costs of laying. The inclination for this type of network occurs both at the level of large companies –Telefónica in its sharing agreement with Sion, DirecTv on the deployment of Metrotel and Claro with a passive model in the hands of American Tower-; as in the scale of medium and small ISPs, many of them wireless, that cannot afford to invest in fiber.

Municipalities join neutral network scheme

Districts promote the deployment of a single fiber network in main cities and surrounding towns. In addition to FTTH, use in smart city applications and connectivity for public schools is foreseen. These deployments compete with services with lower benefits such as ADSL. The business model allows the network builder to make the delivery and the ISP to lease the infrastructure.
