Strike by autoworkers is part of the race for dominance of the global electric car industry

Ford, GM and Stellantis could delay the release of their new EV models while Tesla, which employs non-union workers, would extend its advantage already achieved based on the massive automation of its plants. Joe Biden's administration earlier this month made available US$ 12 billion in subsidies to convert auto factories.

The United Auto Workers (UAW) strike, which represents workers in automotive and auto parts plants in the United States, has economic reasons such as wage increases in the midst of rising inflation. However, it is also part of a broader power struggle involving the federal government under Joe Biden, unionized automakers, Tesla, Toyota, and other foreign-based producers, as well as the global competition in electric vehicles (EVs).
