Media Law: entry into the Chamber of Deputies and possible sanction before the end of Lacalle Pou's administration

After three and a half years of negotiations and judicial intervention, the government has finally approved the initiative to change the current law for another that contains less than half of the articles and increases the number of simultaneous licenses in different platforms in the hands of the companies, allows infrastructure sharing and limits the use of spectrum to that assigned by the regulatory authority.

Since March 2020, when the current President Luis Lacalle Pou took office, the ruling party has been seeking to repeal the existing Media Law and replace it with another drafted by sectors aligned with their political space. The latest development has been the approval in the Industry Committee of the Chamber of Deputies of a set of articles composing a new Media Law that will be debated in the Deputies before the year's end.
