With a US$ 16.7 mn investment, Movistar inaugurated 337 kilometers of optical fiber covering the Anaco-Puerto Ordaz way, that will allow to increase five times as much the band width in the City Ciudad Bolívar and El Tigre. Movistar's vice-president of Networks and Infrastructures, Juan Comerma, pointed out that the interconnections performed in that stretch are: 42 kilometers of the urban ring in Puerto Ordaz, 20 urban kilometers in Bolívar City, 21 further kilometers from El Tigre and El Tigrito to San José de Guanipa and, six kilometers in Anaco. “About 90 kilometers of urban fiber and the rest of interurban fiber", he summarized. The expansion of the stretch to 1,400 kilometers more and in December it is expected to finish the Puerto La Cruz-Caracas, for the Venezuelan eastern territory to be connected. For next year Telefónica and Movistar will continue to invest in optical fiber projects in addition to new services in the country, such as broad band stations in all the cities and "last mile links”. The general manager of Movistar in the Guianian Region, Kelvin Machuca, informed that through the optical fiber they have linked the cities of Barquisimeto, Puerto Cabello, Valencia, Maracay, Caracas, Maturín, Puerto La Cruz, Maracaibo, Cabimas, Ciudad Ojeda, Sur del Lago and Carora. With this new Anaco-Puerto Ordaz stretch (337 km), 1,374 kilometers of optical fiber installed in the country's territory are achieved.
